Campobello and The Porpoise
Waiting-Grounds
From atop a high rock near the shore may be seen Quoddy Head
and Grand Manan, a little distance from the camping grounds is Cranberry
Point, where a shaft has been dug by prospectors and a considerable amount
of copper ore has been obtained. Passamaquoddy families are camped at east
side of Gooseberry Point on Campobello waiting for the tide to turn in their
favor before heading to Grand Manan. They were waiting for the change of the
tide to help them on to Grand Manan for porpoise shooting. On the island is
a spring of cool clear water, it was cut down deep into the ground years ago
by the Indians. |
